Sandra's Story
Although I was set to attend the University of South Carolina with Jeanne Offerman as my roommate. At the last moment, my Father talked me into applying to the University of New Mexico for in-state tuition, since he was being stationed from Hawaii to Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM. I spent three years at UNM before meeting and marrying my husband, Tom McDonough. As of early 2018, I have been married to Tom for over 50 years. We have two sons, David and Bryan, who live in Houston, TX, where we lived for apx 35 years. I retired from Chevron Oil Corporation in 2001, and Tom retired from Merrill Lynch (Broker) in 2012. I battled cancer from 2007 thru 2010. In 2008, we moved north of Houston to Livingston, TX, where we both became Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners. Lake Livingston, and we worked it (hard!) for four years, getting 6 independent school districts and the prison system involved in the growing of plants and planting them in the lake. Tom was recognized by Laura Bush in a ceremony in September of 2017; After living in Livingston, TX for 8 1/2 years, we moved to the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains in Santa Fe, NM in May of 2017. We have downsized to make life easier, but still have room for visitors, so if you are in our area, please look us up. I enjoyed a visit from Roy Oshiro, while we were living in Houston (in the early 2000’s). He can tell you the embarrassing story of how he went to the wrong house! I am on Facebook (but rarely post things). LIFE IS GOOD, especially after you have beat cancer three times! Update: Husband died 5/2023., and for now (9/20/22) I am still in Santa Fe.
